Half-Million deaths

Half-Million,

Yesterday, The United States of America crossed a grim mile stone; 500,000 Americans died from Covid. This virus has plagued us & the world for a year now. More Americans have died from Covid -19 than World War I (116,516), World War II (291,557), and the Vietnam War (58,220) all combined.

The Country’s total virus deaths are higher than in any other country in the world. It easily surpassed early predictions of loss by most “experts.” Last March, in the early days of the Covid-19, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, and Dr. Deborah L. Birx, the official coordinating the coronavirus response at the time, projected that even with strict stay-at-home orders, the virus might kill as many as 240,000 Americans. How sadly they were wrong.

What some do not know is how this virus have cut through some of the most vulnerable amongst us. Covid -19 spread like wild fire in nursing homes and long-term facilities. By most estimates, approximately 165,000 or one-third of the deaths comes from nursing home or long-term facilities.

Sidebar:

  1. Since the beginning, most nursing homes and long-term care facilities stop allowing family members to visits their loved one for fear that the relative would bring the virus into the building.
  2. However, the nursing home residents and the long-term facilities’ residents typically don’t leave the building. Therefore, they likely caught Covid-19 from staff that comes & goes.

This Covid-19 virus deaths also have disproportionately affected Americans along racial lines Over all, according to the CDC (Center for Disease Control & Prevention), the death rate for Black Americans with Covid-19 has been almost two times higher than for white Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; the death rate for Hispanics was 2.3 times higher than for white Americans. And for Native Americans, it was 2.4 times higher.

There is some good news on the horizon. Some scientists believe the current death rate path can change based on the speed of the vaccinations and how well people continue to stick to the mask wearing & social distancing guidelines.

Now Trutalk:

  • Whether you believe in God or some other higher being or evolution, take a moment of silence for the people that we loss due to Covid-19.
  • It’s abundantly clear that the original roll out of the vaccine was flawed – at best. Since some elderly either don’t want the vaccine and/or they have trouble navigating the system to find out where to go, the vaccine should have been given to other groups earlier on.
  • Although giving the vaccine to the phase 1(a) group of 75 and older makes sense, holding onto it until they get it doesn’t.
  • The vaccine phases should have taken into consideration, what to do if some people don’t want it.
